deux visages is a three-piece dream-pop rock band with daphney (vocals), jack (guitar), & tony (bass). originally based in miami and formed during high school, they’re now based in philadelphia and are recently signed with atlantic records.

[ u just came out with the first single from your upcoming debut studio album. could u tell me a little bit about the vibe/concept of the album? ]
daphney: without saying too much at the moment it’s an album that deals a lot with coming of age themes. a lot of these songs were written on a whim in the studio. we feel like the album ended up being a lot about our first record deal with a major label and the stress and pressure that came from that.

jack: our album is about coming of age. growing up watching your world and yourself changing for better and for worse rlly hope everyone loves it the way we do

tony: the vibes for the album are sort of melancholic or at least the lyrics, gonna have to ask daphney about that lol, but the general LOOSE theme was a coming of age story and all that encompasses that. its all a long time coming with so many set backs which in a way shaped those songs since there were so many obstacles considering our previous label and all those hoops we had to jump through only to end up parting ways.

[ what media were u guys consuming that might’ve helped inspire u in the making of the album? ]
daphney i was playing a lot of sims 2 at the time which sounds stupid but it was a game i played A LOT as a kid and made me want the album visuals to be reminiscent of growing up in the 2000’s and what that felt like.

jack: the album sounds nothing like king crimson but i was heavily inspired to write and experiment with sounds because of them in addition to a ton of J-rock lol.

tony: me personally, let me start by saying im terrible at distinguishing sounds and genres, but i was listening to a good amount of old hardcore tracks with a few modern heavier tracks like flesh water and turnstile, also definitely a lot of sweet pill with their newest release,  and of course just a buncha oldies as per usual like classic rock and a buncha abba.

[ you’ve played with bands like mannequin pussy, julie, destroy boys, and soon going on tour with sweet pill and the linda lindas! who would be a dream of yours to play a show/festival with in the future? ]
daphney: this is a hard one! i feel like we’ve already played with so many bands that have been so influential to us. if i had to make a dream lineup out of my current faves (that we haven’t toured with) it would be : cocteau twins, slow pulp, fleshwater, and poison girlfriend.

jack: loved each and every band we’ve played with so far, for the future I’d love to play with forest, crumb, clarion, dr dog.

tony: hmmm idk about “dream” necessarily because most of my favorites are either dead or already grandparents but fleshwater is a band id love to play a few shows with just because i love their sound and i think itll be a lot of fun.

[ what’s something offline that ur rlly into right now? ]
daphney: its stupid but i’ve been really into decorating our house and my room. we moved out last year altogether and i’ve been trying to decorate our home to be cozy for all of us. i’ve been buying lots of decor and trying to do that!

jack: super into cooking right now/experimenting with guitar components

tony: something offline that ive been into is maybe taking care of plants/starting to make terrariums. back in miami i had a lot of plants so im slowly rebuilding the collection of greenery in my room.

[ any funny stories from tour? ]
daphney: we’ve almost left tony behind at places on tour more than we’d like to admit

jack: found a can of helium and then proceeded to  spend two hours backstage huffing helium and dying of laughter

tony: one time i remember when we were on tour with destroy boys, violet asked if she could play tethered with us on stage, she did and it was such a fun show and such a fun run w them id love to do it again.

[ to sign off, any advice u would like to give to other creatives in music? ]
daphney: always stick to what you believe in no matter what other people say (even those closest to you) and being consistent will pay off!

jack: sound, presence, and relatability are all known factors to music but one that’s not talked about enough is simply sticking with it long enough, people will never hear your music if you only spend two years trying to make it work. don’t give up!

tony: stay in school. and of course, thank you for listening to our weird music!
